2025, Argentina. Solid cedar soundboard, 7 fan braces. The fan pattern is unique to Yacopi, referred to as an inverted fan since the braces are closer together at the bridge, and further apart towards the soundhole. Indian rosewood back and sides, 650 mm scale, 52 mm nut width, Schaller tuners. I am told that the finish is french polished, but it looks like lacquer to me. Jose Yacopi was born in Spain, and learned lutherie from his father, Gamaliel. In 1947 the two developed and patented their bracing system. Jose relocated to Argentina in 1949, where he established a workshop. Among his clientele were Eric Clapton, Narcisco Yepes, and Julian Bream. Jose passed in 2006, and his son, Fernando, has continued the workshop. Based on the sound to this instrument, Yacopi was on to something very good. This is a great sounding guitar with a full tone, and excellent projection. The trebles speak out clearly and the basses have a solid bass timbre. This one punches above it’s weight. Please excuse the boxing metaphor. Yacopi makes a great guitar that will surprise you at this price. Little used, excellent condition, near mint.
